Japan’s Oldest: Sapporo Premium Lager

Today’s beer is another product of the Land of the Rising Sun, Japan. Surprisingly, Japan makes some really nice beers and Sapporo is definitely amongst them.

Sapporo Premium Lager

This tasty Japanese lager pours out with the expected golden color. The white head, one finger of it, is fairly bubbly and settles down pretty quick. The aroma is very faint, the only thing that can be pointed are some grains, but other than that, the smell is pretty much neutral. The taste is similarly like the aroma pretty mild, but you can easily taste the sweet grains at the beginning. The finish is slightly bitter, but again, nothing you haven’t tasted before.

Sapporo proved to be a very pleasant, refreshing and easy to drink. It’s one of those lagers that you will easily have one after another, but it doesn’t leave anything to remember it by. Decent, but forgetable.

The Rising Sun: Asahi Super Dry

Today’s beer comes from the land of sumo, Godzilla, sushi, and karate. Yes, you are correct, this is Japan. According to the label, Asahi is Japan’s No. 1 beer.

Asahi Super Dry

Asahi, which is supposedly translated as “the morning sun”, pours out with a clear and golden color (it’s a lager, what else do you expect), and is topped with a decent white and foamy head, which takes some time before settling down. It has a sweet and malty aroma, and there is also an addition of some rice in it. The taste is sweet, malty, and grainy, with a slightly bitter and hoppy aftertaste. It’s slightly watery and very easy to drink.

It’s not the best beer, nor the best Japanese beer that I have tried so far, but it certainly is a decent one, which will quench your thirst, but that’s just it.
