Kosova’s Finest: Birra Peja Pilsner

The continuation of my Balkan Tour took me through Kosovo, where I decided to spend a night. Leaving politics aside, Kosovo is a very nice country with very warm and pleasant people, and also pretty great (and cheap) beer.

  • Name: Birra Peja Pilsner

Peja is basically the only Kosovo beer brand produced, so not much to choose from really. The appearance is pretty decent, with it golden color and two fingers of white foamy head, that does its best to stay with you for a while. There’s not much aroma to pick up, but there is a slight presence of malts and some grains as well. It has the basic sweet taste, followed by a bitter finish. Nothing special, but at least it’s not watery .

Although there’s not much taste to it, it still is easy to drink, and thanks to the quite high carbonation, it has that refreshing feel. Not too shabby really, but again, nothing out of the ordinary.

  • Style: Pilsener
  • ABV: 4,2%
  • Ingredients: water, barley malt, hops
