The Maltese: Cisk Lager

Today I bring you a beer from one of my holidays, this time from the gorgeus Mediterranean island of Malta. Cisk is the best refreshment during a hot day on one of the country’s beautiful sandy beaches.

Cisk Lager

Cisk Lager, pronounced “chisk”, is Malta’s favourite brand of beer available all around the island. This beer presents itself with a clear gold color (what else to expect from a lager) which is topped with a decent, although not lasting white head. The smell is weak but familiar – a malty aroma is complemented by some grains. The taste is also as expected – a quite weak and sweet taste, with a minimum presence of hops in the aftertaste. It’s slightly (too) watery and highly carbonated, making it very smooth and easy to drink, together with the low level of alcohol.

Although there’s not much taste to it, it gives you exactly what you crave for in the Maltese heat. Not the best one I ever had, but still very pleasant and a perfect choice during the stay on the island.

  • Style: Pale Lager
