Turkish Delight: Efes Pilsen

To be completely fair, Efes is the only Turkish beer I have heard of so far, so this means it’s also the best Turkish beer I have tasted (so far). But in the near future,  I plan to do some dedicated search for the best Turkish beer, of course, on one of Turkey’s several sunny beaches.

Efes Pilsener

I have to say I fancy Efes Pilsen quite a bit. Since it’s relatively easy to get here in Slovenia, I have had several pleasant meetings with it. Truth to be told, it doesn’t seem anything special, but it’s the details that count. It looks like just another lager with its pure golden color and a two fingers of non-lasting white head. The aroma is sweet and grainy, pleasant although not to distinct. Efes Pilsen is light and not watery like some others. It starts with the malty sweetness plus some grains, and it finishes with a decently bitter aftertaste.

To me, Efes tastes almost like a perfect lager. It’s got everything you want. It’s sweet, it’s bitter, it’s got a pleasant aroma, it’s refreshing, and it has the smoothness to run down your thorat in seconds. I don’t know if I would call it my favourite lager, but it’s definitely in the top five.
