One of Serbia’s most popular beers was brought to me by a friend visiting the country’s capital of Belgrade. The word lav is Serbian for lion (as you can see in the title), so let’s hear it roar.
- Name: Lav Pivo
- Brewery: Carlsberg Serbia
- City: Čelarevo
- Country: Serbia
This little lion pour out with a clear, golden color, and is topped with a very generous foamy head which takes only seconds to settle down. The classic lager aroma can be described as faint, malty and grainy, perhaps with a little addition of hops (if you use your imagination). The taste is expected – a light but sweet taste upfront, followed by a decent hoppy bitterness.
All in all, Lav is a very fine Euro lager (which I am so fond of due to the environment I was raised in) which offers quite some taste, unlike some other bland lagers. The carbonation and smoothiness also make it very drinkable and refreshing, and thus a perfect summer drink.
